I had to give a "reflection" at a meeting today. Here's what I chose. And here's why I chose it.
A number of years back, I met, at a networking event, a woman named Bea Young. She did show us her driver's license to prove that. She was a yogini (female yoga practitioner) and was in her 70s at the time. She had the posture and presence of a queen, and she attributed that to daily yoga and daily rollerblading...
The poem is by Dawna Markova. I have no title for this. Here it is:
I will not die an unlived life.
I will not live in fear
of falling or catching fire.
I choose to inhabit my days,
to allow my living to open men,
to make me less afraid,
more accessible;
to loosen my heart until
it becomes a wing,
a torch, a promise.
I choose to risk my significance,
to live so that which came to me as seed
goes to the next as blossom,
and that which
came to me as blossom
goes on as fruit.
